Describing a story setting – Y6
Over the past term, Year 6 have been exploring the use of descriptive language to create captivating settings for our mystery stories. Inspired by the scenes described in The Curse of Cogston House, we turned our classroom into an ‘unsettling setting’ to evoke atmosphere and assist our writing tasks. The exercise involved much imagination and visualisation, a strong emphasis on sensory input and the utilisation of literary devices such as personification, similes and metaphors. By sharing ideas and immersing ourselves in a vocabulary-rich environment, we produced amazing pieces of descriptive prose.
