Admissions Procedure
The secondary allocation procedure is sent out to parents by the Chief Education Officer at the start of the child’s final year at Primary School. Foundation schools are independent of the L.E.A. and will also send details of their admission procedure.
We have good relationships with our secondary schools and encourage links between the two phases. We aim for each child to have acquired the skills and attitudes needed to meet the challenge of secondary schooling. Making the right choice is not always easy. Please contact us if you would like any guidance.
For more information regarding the transfer to secondary school please go the Gloucestershire County Council website
Grammar School Entry
You will need to contact your preferred grammar school direct to find out how to apply or for results of any tests. For information regarding key dates go to the Gloucestershire County Council website
The seven Gloucestershire Grammar Schools are planning to hold the Entrance Test as planned on Saturday the 12th of September. Each school will ensure that all guidance on social distancing and hygiene are fully implemented at each testing site. If the date of the Entrance Test has to be changed in light of revised Governmental guidance, then all parents/careers who have registered their child to sit the Entrance Test, will be notified of that change in advance of the 12th of September.
The results of this test will be emailed to parents in October. This will enable you to have the information you need before your completion of the CAF (Common Application Form) for Gloucestershire County Council.

On the evening of Wednesday 20 January 2021, Marling School is holding a virtual open evening. This is predominately aimed at Year 4 and Year 5 (i.e. those that have not yet sat the grammar schools’ entrance test). You will hear a live presentation from the Executive Headteacher, Dr Stuart Wilson and have the opportunity to view a new video of the school in action.
We will be running the event at both 5pm and 6pm. In order to register for this event please email SC@marling.school with your preferred time (please also indicate if you are able to do the alternative time if your preferred session is full) and you will receive a zoom link for the evening.
Please view our Virtual Open Event here.
Our students love to talk about their experience at the school and have filmed themselves talking about their time at the school. Click here to watch.
All parents have questions, here Rob Reid, Assistant Headteacher, answers some of the most commonly asked ones. Our FAQs can also be found by clicking here.
Lastly, we are sure the admission process is an area that you will want to explore, and an additional presentation addresses this key issue, please click here.
The admissions section of our website contains further useful information but if you have any questions, please email admissions@marling.school, including a phone number if you would like us to call you and we will be in contact shortly.
